Frequently Asked Questions

My Practice Specifically
What are your rates?
I schedule 45-50 minute consultations and charge $75-$150 for individual work and $120-$200 for couples work. Alternative meeting length and price can be arranged and negotiated. I am considering using a reduced rate during the introductory meetings.
What age do you work with?
I work with Adults (age 18+). However, I will work with minors (age 12+) if parents are humble, willing, and able to implement psychoeducational recommendations.
What are your hours?
Currently (last updated 31MAY25), hours are Monday and Tuesday: 10:00am through 3:00pm with the last session beginning at 2:00pm. On Thursdays, I have availability from 8:00pm though 11:00pm with the last session beginning at 10:00pm.
What about hours for Night Therapy?
I am considering opening time slots for first responders, medical professionals, and those who are on reverse schedule from 11:00pm through 2:00am on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If this is something you may prefer send an email to jacob@pointmanpsychotherapy.com
What populations do you work with?
Those who identify a concern and those who want to work on it. However, those who tend to have an aversion to psychotherapy because it is (insert your own preconceived notion on the uselessness of psychotherapy) tend to be the population which gets the most benefit from a psychotherapist like myself. Additionally, if I determine that I do not possess the clinical skills and experience to work with a client I will refer them to an appropriately licensed professional who specializes in your concerns.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel your appointment just give me a heads up within 24 hours. If you miss a scheduled appointment there will be a 50% fee from the agreed upon amount for services.
Is therapy in person or virtual?
I offer both in-person and virtual therapy. In person sessions will be held at 506 Honea Egypt Road, Magnolia, TX 77354. Virtual Appointments will be held via a protected, HIPAA compliant telehealth application.
How do I pay?
Pointman Psychotherapy accept all major payment types. For your confidentiality I do not use venmo, cashapp, or other unconfidential means. All payments are expected in full at the time services are provided.
Do you accept insurance?
No. However, I offer a sliding scale based on needs.
How do I contact you to make an appointment?
(936)-978-0083 or jacob@pointmanpsychotherapy.com
When will you respond to my questions?
If you contact me I will respond when appropriate. I do not answers communications while in session unless an emergency presents. If you have difficulty contacting me try an alternate method like text, call, or email.
Therapy Generally
Does my therapist need to have a similar background or personal history to understand me?
It depends. Even if your counselor had similar circumstances and life experiences you both would interpret those events differently based on the way you both conceptualize events through language. One person’s potato is another person’s tuber, and someone else’s Irish dinner. However, shared experiences may be helpful when a client is extremely hesitant to engage in the therapeutic process, or a counselor is insecure about their ability to provide therapeutic benefit.
How long does it take to get better?
It depends. Some people may require a system for thinking that enables cognitive and emotional regulation. Others may require a deeper personality alteration that comes from expressing novel ideas with a fear of being judged. However, your therapist will take your preference for time willing to attend therapy into consideration and alter your treatment plan appropriately.
What if I have strong reactions to my therapist?
If you idealize or devalue your therapist it is beneficial to identify what exactly you idealize or devalue and then bring that up with your therapist. This will give you an idea of how they respond to your honesty which can help you make a decision to change therapists.
As I receive more questions I will update this page accordingly.
